- In situ soil vapor extraction (SVE) is a remediation technology in which a vacuum is applied to induce a controlled subsurface air flow to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and some semivolatile organic compuonds (SVOCs) from the vadose zone to the surface for treatment.
-The contaminated air is brought to the surface and passed through a vapor/liquid separator to remove any moisture before the air is treated.
-Treatment is typically done by adsorption (activated carbon), or for more concentrated waste streams, by thermal oxidation systems.
